ONE OF THE LAST LARGE RUBIES WE HAVE TO OFFER! AN AWESOME LARGE 40,15CT (8,03G SEE PHOTO PLEASE) REAL (EITHER NATURAL OR LAB GROWN) RED RUBY GEMSTONE WITH BEAUTIFUL OVAL CUT. THIS RUBY PASSED ALL THE TESTS I COULD PERFORM: IT SCRATCHED GLASS EASILY! IT FLUORESCES STRONG RED! (PLEASE SEE PHOTO) IT DID NOT LEAVE A RED STREAK WHEN SCRATCHES GLASS. COULD NOT SCRATCH IT WITH A STEEL NAIL. HAS A HIGH THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY! (PLEASE SEE PHOTO)
THIS PARTICULAR STONE WAS BOUGHT IN 2011 FROM A SELLER IN SOUTH AFRICA WITH THE ORIGEN OF THE STONE INDICATED AS THAILAND. IT WAS SOLD AS A REAL RUBY THAT HAS BEEN COLOR TREATED WITH DIFFUSION (a technique whereby certain natural elements are placed on the surface of the gem during the heating and or growth process and the colour is diffused into the gem). IT WAS NOT INDICATED IF IT IS NATURAL OR LAB GROWN.
IT IS INDEED A REAL RUBY GEMSTONE (EITHER NATURAL OR LAB GROWN) AS IT PASSED ALL THE TESTS I COULD PERFORM:
PASSED THE SCRATCH TEST: IT SCRATCHES GLASS EASILY IT IS HARDER THAN GLASS. THIS INDICATES THIS GEMSTONE IS NOT GLASS BUT A REAL MINERAL GEMSTONE. (MOHS HARDNESS GLASS 5.5-6.5 RUBIES 9.0)
PASSED THE RUB TEST: OUR RUBY DID NOT LEAVE ANY COLOR STREAKS WHEN IT SCRATCHED GLASS. (Real rubies will never leave a red streak)
PASSED THE ELECTRON UV LIGHT EMISSION TEST: GIVES A STRONG RED FLUORESCENCE UNDER UV LIGHT. NATURAL RUBIES USUALLY SHOW WEAK RED FLUORESCENCE. A SYNTHETIC RUBY USUALLY SHOWS A STRONG RED FLUORESCENCE. OUR RUBY SHOWS A STRONG RED FLUORESCENCE (PLEASE SEE PHOTO) THAT WOULD INDICATE IT IS AN SYNTHETIC RUBY! (THE UV LIGHT HIT THE ELECTRONS. THEY JUMP AND FALL BACK. THEY RADIATE LIGHT OF A CERTAIN WAVELENGTH WHEN THEY DO WHICH IS SPECIFIC TO EACH ELEMENT IN THE MINERAL. THIS IS CALLED FLUORESCENCE. ONLY 10% OF GEMSTONES EXHIBIT A FLUORESCENCE AFFECT LIKE RUBIES, SAPPHIRE, TOPAZ, OPALS AND DIAMONDS. GLASS AND ALL NATURAL QUARTZ VARIETIES DOES NOT SHOW A UV AFFECT.)
PASSED THE THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY TEST: TESTED THE THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY WITH A MIZAR PRESTIGE SERIES 2 DIAMOND TESTER. IT MOVED UP THE LADDER FROM STANDARD LEVEL 3 TO LEVEL 6. FOR SAPPHIRES AND RUBIES A LEVEL OF 6 TO 7 IS THE NORM FOR THIS TESTER. THIS TEST INDICATES OUR GEMSTONE IS MOST PROPABLY MADE (EITHER NATURALLY OR SYNTHETICALLY) OUT OF THE MINERAL CORUNDRUM WOULD QUALIFY IT AS A RUBY. (WITH THIS TESTER GLASS AND QUARTZ MAKES NO MOVEMENT.)

RUBIES: Firstly Rubies is one of the four precious gemstones amongst Saphire, Diamond and Emerald. Real rubies rank 9 on the Mohs scale of Hardness.
Ruby is a red type of the corundum mineral, along with sapphire. Sapphires have each color of the corundum, except red, which is the color of the ruby. Corundum is relatively common in nature, and is completely colourless. Chromium causes the red colour in rubies.
Corundum once found wide application as an industrial abrasive like sandpaper. Gem corundum is mined almost exclusively from gem gravel deposits. Historically, production has been from Myanmar (Burma), Thailand, India and Sri Lanka (Ceylon). Rubies are known as the King of Gemstones and Myanmar and Thailand honor the corundum ruby as their national stone. More recent important sources include East African countries of Madagascar, Tanzania and Mozambique.
Corundum was the first gem mineral to be synthesized in the lab by a process known today as flame fusion and flux growth. Synthetic rubies and sapphires are presently manufactured in enormous quantities for both industrial and gem application.This caused widespread apprehension and greatly diminished ruby sales and a resulting fall in prices.
The color and clarity of rubies and sapphires is commonly enhanced by heat treatment. This is today the rule rather than the exception.
