Rebutia is a genus in the family Cactaceae, native to the hills and mountains of the eastern side of the Andes Mountains in Bolivia and Northern Argentina. The genus Rebutia is one of the most popular in cultivation. They do extremely well in pots and rockeries. They are generally small, colourful cacti, globular in form, which freely produce flowers that are relatively large in relation to the body. They have no distinctive ribs, but do have regularly arranged small tubercles. They are considered fairly easy to grow and germinate freely from seed.
Rebutia fiebrigii commonly known as Flame Crown is an outstanding snow-white Bolivian species that clusters with age and produces intense orange flowers that will brighten any garden, windowsill or greenhouse. It is naturally found in Narvaez and Tarija in Bolivia. It is a low growing species covered with dense furry white spines. Each stem grows 3 cm wide, 4 cm tall. The stems of this cactus grow usually taller than they are broad. It would appear that in cultivation they grow larger and cluster more vigorously than in habitat. It flowers profusely throughout spring into summer with spurts of flowering into autumn. One of its many synonyms includes Rebutia muscula. |
