Although these red background badges were only approved in 1987, they were made retrospective. Recce Divers that qualified for the CHROME Army Diver badge (1973) also wore them.
A Recce Diver that attended a Navy function also wore the badge. With an Army function, they wore the Attack Diver badge (if they qualified on the conversion).
This badge was NOT only worn on mess dress, but also on office dress depending on the occasion.
