Superb Regency Tea Caddy Antique English Regency Inlaid Rosewood Tea Caddy, Circa 1810.
The hinged lid is finely inlaid with mother of pearl, the base with the corresponding inlay, and the sides carved turned handles. The interior is fitted with twin box tea caddies and a central engraved glass mixing bowl, the caddy standing on compressed bun feet.
Condition the top section to one side has some age-related cracks in the wood the inside lid has some old repairs by the hinge area.
The mother of pearly inlay to the top is  of flower and foliage and this detail is carried to the front base panel
A beautiful tea caddy
The two holders are marked G for Gunpowder Tea and the other B for Bohea Tea
Comes with a mixing bowl and the original key.
In the 17th century, tea was so expensive that it was stored in a lockable box/container these were mostly highly decorative and became known as Tea Caddies. Canny is a word derived from the May work Kati. The caddy was normally kept in the drawing room .
