Remarkable & Rare Vintage Maco Adjustable Template / Profile Gauge
This is an incredibly well preserved and rare Maco adjustable template.
The Maco Adjustable Template allows for the copying of shapes / profiles that are awkward to mark out.
It is a solid item manufactured by Brecknell, Willis & Co Ltd of Bristol & Chard, England. From my reading, it is made of cast iron and has brass fingers / laminations that slide against each other which enables the obtaining of profiles with precision.
It is contained in a wooden box with a sliding lid. The one side of the box has suffered a bit of damage and been repaired on one side (see photos). It appears that this is the box it originally came in.
Included is the wooden Profile Perfector tool - these are apparently very rare and often are missing. Also included is an original engineering drawing dated 30.4.51. With this is a printed single page advert from the same era.
