Forward by Matthys Bokhorst, SA National Art Musuem, April 1966 and an Introduction by Heather Martienssen, University of the Witwatersrand. A panel of experts worked for more than two years to produce the Twentieth Century South African Art book, a selection of 162 works of art of which 56 are in full colour plate printed by Pan Engraving Vario Colour, Union Press and McManus Bros, Cape Town. Monochrome pictures and colour plates with the Artist's Name, Year, Title, Size and Date date on each artists work. Pierneef, Battiss, Coetzer, Laubser, Van Wouw, Stern, Preller, Kumalo and many more artists.
An excellent copy of a reference work which has colour and monochrome illustrations of over one hundred of South Africa's leading painters and sculptors of the first two-thirds of the previous century.
Condition: Very Good, all pages and binding intact, no loose pages. Dust jacket has creases and minor holes and tears. The book has previously been covered with plastic and sellotape marks exist on the inside covers. The internal pages and plates are clean, some light tanning on outer edges. No foxing or browning of papers. Beige cloth boards of the book are in very good condition.
