A memoir of the authors familys relationship with Stern.

Mona Berman's account of the 30 year correspondence between her parents Richard and Freda Feldman and the pioneering South African artist Irma Stern subtly weaves together Sterns personality, career and art. The Feldmans were enlightened and generous patrons, and Sterns letters to them reveal the connections of family and friendship that sustained this important Expressionist painter both emotionally and professionally. Interpreting the correspondence from her point of view as both a child and an adult, Mona Berman unfolds their lives as one would a letter, providing a personal account as a vivid as one of Sterns paintings.
