Renata Watch & Battery Tester BWT-94
Built for watchmakers, jewelers, and anyone servicing watch batteries at the bench.
The Renata Watch & Battery Tester BWT-94 is a precision, two-in-one bench tool. it verifies 1.55V silver oxide and 3V lithium button cells, and it checks whether a stopped analog quartz watch has a dead battery or a mechanical fault all without opening the case. It's a fast, reliable way to rule out the easy answer before reaching for tools.
The tester is also equipped with an LED indicator that checks the output impulse of quartz analogue movements, making it useful for diagnosing whether the movement is running.
Highlights:
- Tests 1.55V silver oxide, alkaline/manganese plus 3V CR and BR lithium batteries
- Inductive stepping-motor test checks analog quartz watches without opening the case
- Battery and watch test functions work independently. Test a battery and check a watch at the same time
- Battery testing draws no power from the tester itself, so it works even if the tester's own battery is dead
- Includes a replaceable CR2430 lithium battery to power the watch test function
Specifications
- Test function: battery voltage and impulse output
- Battery test setting: 1.55V (silver oxide/alkaline) and 3V (lithium)
- Indicator: LED impulse display
- CR2430 lithium battery included (replaceable)
How to Test a Battery
- Set the switch on the right side of the device to match the battery type. The 1.55V "Silver" position also works for alkaline/manganese button cells.
- Place the battery positive-side down on the testing point, then press the contact spring against the negative side.
- Read the pointer. If it lands in the green zone, the battery is good.
- If the needle doesn't reach the green zone, the battery is discharged and should be replaced.
How to Test a Watch
- Check the watch for obvious mechanical damage and make sure the crown is fully pushed in.
- Place the watch on the testing area at the center of the tester and press the "Watch Test" button (upper right) to activate the testing circuit.
- If the stepping motor is receiving pulses, the tester's green LED flashes and beeps in rhythm about once per second for watches with a second hand, or up to once a minute for watches without one. That means the battery is fine and the stoppage is mechanical, so the watch needs repair, not a new battery.
- If the LED doesn't light and the tester doesn't beep, the battery is likely dead and needs replacing.
This function only works on analog quartz watches with a stepping motor it won't give a valid reading on mechanical or digital watches. Keep the tester away from strong magnetic fields (computer monitors, electric motors, etc.) during a watch test nearby fields can throw off the reading.
Good to Know
Battery and watch testing are independent functions, so you can run both at once. And because battery testing doesn't rely on the tester's own power, you can still test batteries even if the tester's CR2430 has run down.
