In order to complete its catalogue, and to fill the gap between the Major and the Gordini, Renault decided to launch the 8S. A car with a look almost identical to the "Gord'" but with different characteristics. Under the hood, we find the engine of the Caravelle 1100S 53hp, 25 less than the Gordini but 7 more than the Major. Inside the Renault 8S there is a wooden dashboard, like the Major, but with some reminders of sportiness, including performance meters. The R8S is the best example of compromise at Renault at the time.
