Philatelic Series CD 24

All Known REPRINTS Of Officially Issued Postage Stamps & Postal Stationary
1840-1892

An Illustrated Catalogue
Country A-Z: The Features Of Each Reprint Described

H. Hilckes, 1892, 73 pages.

Reprints are obsolete stamps printed from the original dies or plates. Whatever the original motive for printing - be it to defraud or openly sell the 'stamps' as reprints to satisfy a demand - these imposters can be dangerous to collectors with an untrained eye. However, with a little knowledge, they are fairly easy to tell apart from the genuine articles. This book draws the readers attention to the distinguishing features of these reprints and covers all reprints known of at the date of original publication, which includes the vast majority of expensive early issues. There is also an excellent introductory chapter which explains what reprints are, their history, other interesting facts & a helpful list of the general characteristics that reprints exhibit.

Reprinted stamps pose yet another problem for the collector who must also be wary of forgeries (a separate class of imposters which are dealt with separately in the 'Album Weeds' volumes also sold here).
