THE HISTORY OF MICRO DIE CASTS: Micro Machines hold a special place in the hearts of many who grew up in the 80s and 90s. These characterful miniature toy cars, also called Galoob Micro Machines, were manufactured by the company Galoob (founded in 1957) between 1987 and 1999. From 1987 to 1990, Micro Machines dominated the toy car market. They beat out competitors like Hot Wheels and Matchbox with ease, and solidified their place in pop culture. Macaulay Culkin even used Micro Machines in one of his infamous anti-burglar traps from 1990s Home Alone. The east looked on and tried to climb on the bandwagon with Micro Champs. Micro Champs were micro sized toy cars that were made by DIL in the 1980s to compete with Micro Machines. Unfortunately, the Micro Machines line was cut short when toy-manufacturing giant Hasbro acquired Galoob in the mid-1990s. Hasbro quietly discontinued the line. In the years since acquiring Galoob, Hasbro has attempted several revivals of Micro Machines most recently in 2020. While it wont likely ever reach the heights it once enjoyed, collectors and kids of the 1980s and 1990s will always have a special place in their hearts for those tiny little cars.
