The Rhodesia Regiment was an infantry regiment of the British South Africa Company (BSAC) and later the British Army. It was formed in 1899 during the Second Matabele War and was initially composed of volunteers from the British South Africa Police and other units. The regiment played a significant role in the early military history of Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe), participating in various campaigns against indigenous African tribes and in the First and Second World Wars.
During the First World War, the regiment was deployed to East Africa, where it fought against German colonial forces. In the Second World War, it saw action in the Middle East and North Africa. After the war, the regiment underwent several reorganizations and was eventually disbanded in 1981, following the establishment of Zimbabwe.
Throughout its existence, the Rhodesia Regiment was known for its discipline, professionalism, and combat prowess. It was a symbol of Rhodesia's colonial heritage and played a crucial role in shaping the country's military traditions. The regiment's legacy is still remembered in Zimbabwe today, with its history being a subject of both pride and controversy.
