Rhodesian African Rifles Copper Plaque

The Rhodesia African Rifles (RAR) was a regiment of the Rhodesian Army. The RAR traced its origins to the Rhodesian Native Regiment, which fought for the British in East Africa during World War I. The regiment was reformed as the Rhodesian African Rifles in 1940, during World War II, and served in Burma. The RAR was primarily composed of black African soldiers, led by white officers. It played a significant role in the Rhodesian Bush War, fighting against nationalist guerrilla forces. The RAR was known for its discipline, professionalism, and loyalty. After Rhodesia became Zimbabwe in 1980, the RAR was integrated into the Zimbabwe National Army. The legacy of the RAR is remembered in Zimbabwe's military history, and its veterans are respected for their service.
