Rhodesian Bush War Airforce Mug to `Wg Cdr P.J. McClurg, From Air Staff, 30 Apr. `80.

A vintage silver-plated beer mug awarded to Wing Commander P.J. McClurg for the Rhodesian Bush War.  The tankard is engraved "WG CDR P. J. McCLURG, WITH APPRECIATION, FROM AIR STAFF, 30 APR. 80".  It is in well-preserved condition with no plate loss or damage.  Maker's marks to the base (please see pics).

During the Rhodesian Bush War, the air force consisted of no more than 2,300 personnel and of those only 150 were pilots.  A Wing Commander usually commanded a squadron or a wing.  Wing Commander McClurg was stationed at New Sarum Air Force Base, which was a major military airbase located near Salisbury (now Harare), the capital city of Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe). It served as a key air force base for the Rhodesian Air Force during the war.
