HYPOESTES ARISTATA

Family:  Acanthaceae

Common names:  Ribbon bush

This indigenous plant will produce fantastic lilac pink flowers to white. It is a fast growing shrub, with a height of up to 1.5 meters.  The plant flowers from late autumn to early spring.   Occurs naturally in the dry thicket, forest and damp places from the E. Cape to tropical Africa.

This plant is an important food source for many insects, as well as many birds, like robins and thrushes.

When to sow:  August is the best month (Late winter to early spring)  It is an excellent garden plant.  The flowers last well in water.  It is also great for the busy gardener, as they do not need a lot of attention.  Water well in summer, and less in winter.  Prune back after flowering
