Richard Rennie’s interest in art extends all the way back to his childhood where he grew up on a farm in Zimbabwe. After completing high school, he attended the Durban Art School. In 1987 he committed himself to the challenging life of a full time artist. He began painting in oils but soon changed to watercolours as this medium allowed him the spontaneous commitment of idea to paper. His work has been presented in both solo and combined exhibitions through-out South Africa. His paintings can be found gracing homes and businesses in Australia, Europe and the Americas. Richard's originals are hanging in some of South Africa's most prominent companies, i.e. Anglo American, Barlows, Plascon Paints and Tongaat-Hulett. His originals have also been chosen by South African Airways and are hanging in SAA Business Class Lounges all over the world. In the early eighties, Richard's contemporary poster and prints won awards in America for the largest sales. His prints are still very popular in many parts of the world.
Richard has become a highly successful and sought after demonstrator in watercolours and has run workshops in all parts of South Africa. At Sunnyside in the Eastern Free State near Clarens, his annual Artists' Week takes place by invitation only. South Africa's top artists come together to paint and join Richard in an artistic exploration. In his gallery in Clarens, both his renowned watercolour paintings as well as the exciting modern work are on view.
Many artists owe Richard a great dept from his teaching and support with their early years of painting. Peter Hall, Sue Kemp & John Mulder spring to mind in particular.
