Many of the stories and poems that Rudyard Kipling wrote were about animals - both for children and adults. He had lived in many different countries, and had met and observed a wide variety of species. This collection is drawn from the whole range of his work. Some of the animals are very well known - the Elephant's Child, for example, with his satiable curiosity, or Rikki-Tikki-Tavi the valiant mongoose. Some may be less familiar - the dog in 'His Apologies', perhaps - while 'Ham and the Porcupine' may not be known at all. It was a 'Just So' story written some years after the Just So Stories were published, and it is published here for the first time with other Just So stories. All the stories in this collection show the vigour and interest and sense of fun that characterise Rudyard Kipling as a writer, and they have been outstandingly illustrated by Charles Keeping.
