PLEASE READ ALL * PLEASE ASK ANY QUESTIONS BEFORE BIDDING Antique Victorian Era Carpentry Design Book "THE CARPENTER, JOINER & HAND-RAILER" by Robert Riddell Published by A. Fullarton & Co.., Ludgate Hill; The Grange, Edinburgh with 59 Plates Comprimising a Series of Cardboard Models Book contains plates (mock blueprints) showing the procedure in constructing a wide variety of Stair & Handrail designs Back pages have 4 cardboard examples with 3 dimensional pop-ups (see last picture for example) Text is carefully written to explain and teach the proper steps for each design and phase of construction This book represents an age when intricate woodworking was considered a form of "mechanic art" and the examples within are a link to that level of master carpentry NOTICE No date was noted but after research we found that this particular edition comes from 1880. In our search we found only about a dozen examples of this book on which is an International book site. Rare since these are the only known examples. However there was only 1 edition with this particular publisher. Of the dozen or so books on that site, they ranged in price from $50 to $450. This book is the $450 listing with the same publisher. Please check and verify. Very large and heavy spine shows considerable but not surprising rough condition from age. Edges show nearly as much wear and some pages have age moisture spots. Binding is slightly relaxed but contents are bound tight. There is decorative gilt lettering to front cover
