ROBUST PIZZABOX 1993 APPLE MACINTOSH LC475 TURNS ON BUT NO DISPLAY

UP FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION IS A BEAUTIFULLY PIZZABOX MACINTOSH LC 475 FROM 1993. ITS ROBUST, COMPACT AND EASY TO WORK ON. IT WAS MY FAVOURITE APPLE COMPUTERS OF THE GOOD OLD DAYS. THE SERIAL NUMBER FOR THIS COMPUTER IS CK3043E7VA2.
 
IT WAS STORED IN A DRY CLEAN DUST PLASTIC BAG FOR OVER 20 YEARS. I HAD A NEW PRAM BATTERY INSTALLED WHEN I LAST STARTED IT UP AROUND 10 YEARS AGO. WHEN YOU SWITCH ON NOW YOU CAN HEAR THE HARDDRIVE SPINNING STARTING UP GOING THROUGH THE MOTIONS OF AN OLD SYSTEM 7.6 INSTALLLED. HOWEVER WHEN CONNECTING THE DB15 CONNECTOR TO MY OLD APPLE MONITOR I COULD NOT SEE ANY DISPLAY. I TRIED A VGA MONITOR USING A DB15 VGA ADAPTER BUT STILL NO SUCCESS.
 
IT MIGHT BE THAT ONE OR BOTH OF THE VRAM MODULES ARE FAULTY. I DID NOT TRY TO REPLACE THEM WHICH MIGHT SOLVE THE DISPLAY PROBLEM. THERE IS HOWEVER ANOTHER POSSIBLE SOLUTION - BY DEFAULT, THE MACINTOSH LC 475 ONLY SUPPORTS A SINGLE DISPLAY, BUT A SECOND ONE CAN BE SUPPORTED WITH THE ADDITION OF AN LC III PDS VIDEO CARD.

MACINTOSH LC 475:
The Macintosh LC 475 (also sold as the Macintosh Quadra 605 and Macintosh Performa 475) is a personal computer designed, manufactured, and sold by Apple from October 1993 to July 1996. The model names reflect a decision made at Apple in 1993 to follow an emerging industry trend of naming product families for their target customers  Quadra for business, LC for education, and Performa for home. The Quadra 605 was discontinued in October 1994, and the LC 475 variant continued to be sold to schools until July 1996. Apple offered no direct replacement for these machines, making it the final Macintosh to use the LC's lightweight slim-line form factor. Apple would not release another desktop computer under 10 pounds (4.5 kg) until the Mac Mini nearly ten years later.
The LC575 came standard with a Motorola 68LC040 CPU running at 25 MHz, an 80GB Harddrive, 4 MB RAM on board, 512 KB of VRAM (expandable to 1 MB), 1 ADB (Apple Desktop Bus - Macintosh computers typically only provided one ADB port. The keyboard would connect to the computer, and the keyboard provided a downstream port for the mouse, which typically had a short cable.) and 2 serial ports (used to connect printers or modems), external SCSI port (Generally, two connectors, designated male and female, plug together to form a connection which allows two components, such as a computer and a disk drive, to communicate with each other.), one PDS (processor direct slot which provided a limited measure of hardware expandability) and a manual-inject floppy drive.
THIS LC475 ALSO HAS A 72-PIN DRAM SIMM SOCKET WITH AN EXTRA 32MB OF MEMORY MODULE INSTALLED DATED 1996.
Video out is provided by one DA15F connector, and is compatible with VGA monitors. Two internal video ram slots can take either two 256 KB 80 ns 68-pin VRAM SIMMs, or two 512 KB SIMMs. Installing one 512 KB and one 256 KB VRAM SIMM garbles the display. I think two 256KB modules are installed if I remember correctly.
