Roco HO BR294 Railon diesel locomotive. DCC digital.

Brand new locomotive out a starter set. Now, I have run it tonight on the stand and came away with turmoil in my insides. I love ESU. For their innovations, their constant charge after new technology and just an all round quality product. I have always maintained that there is no other decoder that comes close. Not in sound capability and neither in motor control...... BUT, my goodness....... these Zimo decoders are good. The decoder in here is a base model. The loco itself has a centrally mounted 5 pole motor and cardan shafts that drives all the axles. The way that Zimo controls it........ I really did not want it to be that good. Look, motor control is on par with ESU. Back EMF and load control is absolutely brilliant. I got this train to slow down when loaded and accelerate again when the load gets taken off. It did not hum or choke the motor. Couple that to the fact that with a Z21 controller, you can have cabviews and a plethora of other options from the higher end decoders in the Zimo range.... and ESU has their work cut out for them.

At R1850 you will not get a better running loco than this. It completely blew me away. So much train for very little money. It is really all there is to it. I want to shout at you guys to try it. Brilliant model. Comes in its own little box too. Which is nice. Almost like Roco were looking after the seller. These okes are impressing me more every day. They are simply coming to the party and with guys like ESU as competition, my friends, we are in for some bloody exciting times.
