The Rode VideoMic NTG Hybrid Analog/USB Camera-Mount Shotgun Microphone incorporates quite a bit of advanced technology, so that quality sound can be recorded in to your device, computer, or on-camera. Packed in to this microphone is the technology of the NTG5 - where it features acoustic perforations rather than the linear slots which can be found in traditional shotgun microphones. Having this incorporate, allows natural, uncoloured sound.
The VideoMic NTG microphone also makes use of a supercardioid polar pattern, which focuses on sound that's picked up right in front of the microphone while reducing sound coming in from the sides and rear.
You can plug your Rode VideoMic NTG basically into anything that has a USB port, such as your camera, computer and even your smartphone to record in high-quality sound. The integrated analog-to-digital converter operates at 24-bit / 48 kHz to provide full-resolution, and uncompressed audio quality.
You can also monitor your headphones, simply by plugging your headphones into its 3.5mm output, and then controlling the volume via the gain knob that can be found at the bottom of the mic.
Have full control over sound, and optimisation of recording levels for any device, all thanks a continuously variable gain control and a helpful audio peak warning light. The -20 dB pad allows you to quickly lower levels when any loud sounds are occured that could distort your recording.
Other features include Bass Roll-Off and Treble Boost, a selectable Safety Channel allows you set the mic's right channel to 20 db lower than the left channel, which will then record a safety channel and the main signal to your camera at the same time; a powerful 30-hour battery life; and includes a shockmount with sliding rail and a foam windscreen.
