Artist Ron Belling (1993 - 1998) is esteemed for his historical paintings of military aviation. During the second world war, his home town of Port Elizabeth became an operational training base for the Fleet Air Arm. Captivated by the aircraft, Belling meticulously recorded their individual details. In 1977 Ron Belling was the first contemporary South African "Official Military Artist" to be appointed since the last war. The Military Aviation Collection of paintings preserved by the Gutsche Family, covers about 70 years of the 20th Century and almost half the time span of the life of Port Elizabeth as a city.T
