Hard cover with jacket. Published 2003 by Double Storey Books, 242 pages, all in very good condition. The Evangelical Lutheran Art and Craft Centre at Rorke's Drift was one of the very few institutions offering training to black artists during the years of apartheid. The history of the Centre has not been researched and recorded in any detail before. The Centre began in the 1960's and was closed in 1982. This is a narrative including the names of each of the more than eighty artists associated with the project, with a brief biography. Printmaking was the strongest area of production, in part because of its economic possibilities, but also because of its particular potential to carry socio-political messages. No overseas shipping.
