Rosina Wachtmeister catsare instantly recognizable with their pretty patchwork appearance, thin necks and stylized forms. They are at the same time naive and beautiful as they sit among Italian style landscapes in couples and family groups.
This Italian influence is in fact very strong in the cat paintings of Rosina Wachtmeister. The 'Harlequin' appearance of the cats isn't coincidental, and the simple but colorful landscapes appear more like the painted scenery of traditional Italian theater, complete with sunbursts and stars, and often with gold leaf glittering in the detail.
