The Two-Barred Cross of Lorraine symbolizes French freedom, patriotism, and the Resistance movement against Nazi occupation during World War II, serving as an emblem for the Free French Forces led by Charles de Gaulle. The cross was adopted in 1940 by the Free French Forces as a powerful symbol to counter the Nazi swastika and unite all French forces opposed to occupation.It also represents the hope for the recovery of the Lorraine province, which was annexed by Germany from 18711918 and again in 19401944.
