Rateyourmusic Reviewer: Siren is rightfully labeled as the last Roxy Music album of note from their 70's catalogue (an album I also find superior to the late career revival Avalon) and signals a lasp gasp from their art rock stylings. I feel as though I should enjoy this album more given my prefernce towards Roxy Music's uptempo rockers which this album has its fair share of but a shortage of catchy melodies and some weird lyrics (even for Bryan Ferry) prevent this album from getting a higher rating than I'm giving it. I never really "got" For Your Pleasure but always find myself coming back to tracks on Country Life and Stranded so I figured this album's slant towards their last two albums would help matters. The art rock tracks tread a fine line between being fun and catchy or obvious stabs at mainstream radioplay. "Love is the Drug" and "She Sells" represent the latter while "Whirlwind" has a nice sing along quality to it and isn't completely sunk by the lyrics. "Nightingale" is has a nice bass line, an attribute Roxy Music is often overlooked on while "Just Another High" and "Sentimental Fool" should please fans of the band's more complex side. Ferry manages to hold off on being completely ridiculous from a vocal standpoint by refraining from singing in foreign languages and keeping the wavering moaning to a minimum. I'm being slightly sarcastic but it's still his best outing with Roxy Music. Not a bad stopping point for a Roxy Music collection but still a step down from the three albums that came before it.

LP Grading Guide

Mint (M): Absolutely perfect in every way. Hardly ever, orĀ  never been played, possibly even still sealed.
Near Mint (NM or M-): A nearly perfect record. A NM or M- record will play perfectly, with no imperfections during playback. The record shows no obvious signs of wear and has been well taken care of.
Very Good Plus (VG+): Record surfaces may show some signs of wear and may have slight scuffs or very light scratches that don't affect the listening experience.
Very Good (VG): Light scratches are evident that might affect the sound, especially in soft passages and during a song's intro and fade, but will not overpower the music otherwise.

Cover Grading Guide

Mint (M): Perfect. No wear, marks, or any other imperfections.
Near Mint (NM or M-): The LP cover has no creases, folds, seam splits, cut-out holes, or other noticeable similar defects.
Very Good Plus (VG+): Picture sleeves and inner sleeves will have some slight wear, slightly turned-up corners, or a slight seam split. An LP cover may have slight signs of wear, and may be marred by a cut-out hole, indentation, or cut corner.
Very Good (VG): Labels may be marred by writing, or have tape or stickers (or their residue) attached. The same will be true of picture sleeves or LP covers. However, it will not have all of these problems at the same time.
