ROYAL ALBERT VINTAGE 1940S DIAMOND SHAPED CHELSEA BIRD PATTERN BON BON DISH

THIS IS A 1940S ROYAL ALBERT BONE CHINA LOZENGE OR DIAMOND SHAPED SWEET DISH. WITH GILT OVERGLAZED SIDES. MEDIUM SIZED 19CM WIDE 13CM DEEP 2,5CM HIGH.
 
HAND PAINTED OVER TRANSFER PRINT WITH ARTIST INITIALS EH AT BACK. A RARE ITEM BY ROYAL ALBERT NOT EASILY SEEN. IN VERY GOOD CONDITION!
 
MANY ROYAL ALBERT PATTERNS ARE INSPIRED BY ENGLISH GARDENS AND WOODLANDS. THE CHELSEA BIRD PATTERN WAS ISSUED FROM 1941 THROUGH TO 1981. IT CAME IN BLUE AND MAROON. OURS IS THE MAROON VARIATION.
 
This pretty pattern features a pretty Chelsea Bird (pheasant) in the garden. The sweet dish has a maroon band on outer edge of rim and a yellow scroll lining on inner edge of rim. Portruding sides with fine gold trim.
 
Interestingly the Chelsea Bird is not a particular bird nor a particular place. The Chelsea Bird porcelains were inspired by the exotic bird designs found on a set of plates produced by the Chelsea Porcelain Manufactory (the first important porcelain manufactory in England, established around 174345) in England between 1758 and 1769.

OLD 1940S ROYAL ALBERT BONE CHINA LOGO:
FIRST IT WAS ROYAL ALBERT. THEN FROM 1905 TO 1934 IT WAS ROYAL ALBERT CROWN CHINA. BY 1935 IT BECAME ROYAL ALBERT BONE CHINA. THIS PARTICULAR BROWN BONE CHINA STAMP DATES FROM THE 1940S. IT IS THE 2ND SERIES OF BONE CHINA BACKSTAMPS USED BY ROYAL ALBERT.
 
ROYAL ALBERT: 
The origins of Royal Albert China stretch back well over a century. And while the Royal Albert name was first used in 1904, its roots are to be found further back in 1896, when the Albert Works was first built. The Albert Works celebrated the birth of Prince Albert in 1895, who was named after his famous great-grandfather and husband to Queen Victoria.The Albert Works was owned by Thomas Wild and his sons. 
In 1904, due to the companys ever-increasing reputation on the china scene, both at home and abroad, the company was awarded Royal Warrant status.The Royal Warrant is the highest honour any company could receive and are only bestowed upon individuals or organisations who regularly supply the Royal Family with the highest possible standards of goods and services. As a result of the close ties to the Royal Household, in 1906, Thomas Wild took up the name that we know and love today: Royal Albert.
These days Royal Albert is owned by the Fiskars Group, which also houses other classic brands such as Royal Doulton and Wedgwood. Despite this, however, the brand continues to produce bone china tableware and giftware with delicate floral patterns, which is beloved by collectors both young and old.
