This item is a Royal Artillery cap badge from the British Army, with a design also worn in certain Commonwealth artillery regiments, including the South African Artillery. The presence of the Kings Crown dates the badge to the period before 1952, making it appropriate to both World War I and World War II service eras.

The central emblem shows the traditional 9-pounder muzzle-loading field gun, adopted as the symbol of the Royal Regiment of Artillery, also known as The Gunners. The Latin mottos read:
UBIQUE (Everywhere)
QUO FAS ET GLORIA DUCUNT (Whither Right and Glory Lead)

Granted in 1833, these mottos reflect the Royal Artillerys long record of service across almost every major British campaign.
