A rare and sought-after small vase by Royal Doulton in their famous “Blue Children” series. This series, all of which feature scenes of children against a blue background, was produced between the 1890s and 1930 and was highly priced at the time. They are now very valuable collector’s items of which even the smallest item can fetch a couple of hundred pounds sterling. This particular vase features a famous design of two small girls huddling under an umbrella against the background of a wintry landscape with snow. The foot, handles and top rim are all gilded. The back stamp dates the manufacture of this piece to between 1901 and 1927, making it a near antique.
The piece is in good condition for its age. Unfortunately there is a tiny chip on the rim with a hairline crack (about 3 cm) going down from it (see the last photo). Luckily this is at the "back side" of the vase so does not affect its display value. Given the value and beauty of this piece, it may well be worthwhile having this damage professionally repaired. The extreme points of the handles have some rubbing to the gilding. The vase stands about 11.2 cm high and is about 7.5 cm across from one point of the handle to the other.
