ON AUCTION IS A COLLECTABLE ROYAL DOULTON PROFESSIONAL SERIES THE MAYOR PLATE.

The Royal Doulton "The Mayor" plate from the Professionals Seriesware (Series 6000) was produced in 2 versions between 1909 and 1975. It was part of a nine-piece Professional series designed by Charles Noke, showcasing characters like the doctor, admiral, and falconer. The Professionals series was part of Royal Doulton's efforts to produce character-driven, artistic pieces for display (rack plates) in the early 20th century, which have become popular collector items. Other figures in the series include the Squire, the Jester, the Parson, the Hunting Man and the Bookworm.

THIS PLATE FEATURES A CENTRAL PORTRAIT OF A MAYOR IN OFFICIAL REGALIA, (A RED ROBE WITH A FUR COLLAR, A PALE BLUE STRIPED CRAVAT, AND A BLACK TRICORN HAT), SURROUNDED BY A DECORATIVE BORDER OF CITY SYMBOLS LIKE KEYS, SWORDS, AND MACES. 

The most common version D6283, had a thin brown circle around the portrait.
This D5899 earlier 1920 to 1940s variety has a thick brown circle around the portrait.

SIZE: 26CM DIAMETER

CONDITION: IN GOOD CONDITION. NO CHIPS. NO CRACKS.

MARKINGS: THE DISTINGUISHABLE ROYAL DOULTON TRADEMARK BACKSTAMP LOGO WITH THE FAMOUS INTERLOCKING DS, THE CROWN, THE LION, AND THE ROUNDEL WITH TEXT MADE IN ENGLAND ROYAL DOULTON ENGLAND. USED FROM 1920S ONWARDS. BETWEEN 1901 AND 1922 THIS BACKSTAMP WAS ALSO USED BUT HAD ONLY ENGLAND (NOT MADE IN ENGLAND) ON THE BACK.
FROM 1928 THE YEAR OF PRODUCTION WAS ADDED. TO FIND THAT DATE YOU WOULD NEED TO ADD 1927 TO THE NUMBER 14 THAT LIES NEXT TO THE BACK STAMP. DOING THIS GIVES A DATE OF PRODUCTION FOR OUR CHARACTER JUG OF 1941.
