A Royal Red Cross 1st Class, in original presentation case, awarded to Jessie Durie by Lord Buxton for services rendered during the Great War, 1914-18. Jessie Durie was Matron in charge of 1 Military Hospital in Wynberg and the Military Hospital in Swakopmund during the War. I have her bio available if requested.
The Royal Warrant said that it be given:
upon any ladies, whether subjects or foreign persons, who may be recommended by Our Secretary of State for War for special exertions in providing for the nursing of sick and wounded soldiers and sailors of Our Army and Navy.
