Vintage chintz - Royal Winton Grimwades Vase in the Offley pattern - this pattern is, so far as I can establish, unknown in the United Kingdom - however, Offley is mentioned in The Pottery Gazette in February 1938 and here is the quote - "Chintz patterns have always been a speciality in the Winton Ware, and we are able to announce that three new subjects, all of them hand enamelled, are in the course of preparation, and these will be known respectively as Sandon, Meaford, and Offley" - and here is another quote from Muirel M. Miller's book, Collecting Royal Winton Chintz - "It is, of course, possible that the advent of World War II prevented the issuing of these designs, as potteries were then confined to making only undecorated ware, however, some decorated ware was permitted to be made for export, so it might be that these patterns were made for export only" - extrememly rare Offley came in two colorways these being Brown and Black and I love them both! - when was last time you saw Tiger Lilies in Chintz!?! - this set is in perfect condition with no chips, cracks or repairs - item location is Running Springs California United States - listed with a Buy-it-Now price of USD$829.00 = AUD$958.60 - September 2007
