A striking and luxuriously decorated jug by S. Hancock & Sons in a pattern called "Pomegranate." This was part of the "Rubens Ware" series designed by Francis Xavier Abraham, the art director of the company, during the 1920s. Rubens Ware was designed to compete with similarly decorated pieces by Moorcroft. Hancock ceased production in 1937, making their wares very rare, especially in South Africa.
The piece is in very good condition for its age (about 100 years!) with no chips or cracks. It is covered in fine grazing and has some minor spots of pattern loss, especially on the rim. See photos for details.
The jug is about 10-10.5cm high and about 8-9cm across the bottom.
