Running the Gauntlet - Geeorge Mossop

George Mossops Running the Gauntlet is a splendid account of true adventure in the early pioneering days of South Africa. It provides compelling reading plus an historical record of those hard days. Born near Durban in 1861, the young Mossop left home at the tender age of 14 to seek adventure. This he finds after joining a Boer hunting party, who teaches him horsemanship, how to shoot and live off the veld. A veld at that time teeming with buck, wildebeest, quagga. At 1512 he signs up with the Light Horse Infantry, and is rushed off to the war against the mighty and proud Zulu warriors. A handful of pioneers, who were at times greatly outnumbered. The young Mossop lives through these exciting but hard formative years. This is his story of laughter, fear, sadness and hardship. He has left for all South Africans both black and white a vivid and wonderful insight to those early events of South African History
