Beautiful hand-painted Russian lacquer box from the Palekh school featuring the Snow Queen scene. The artwork is richly detailed with fine gold highlights, traditional Palekh miniature style and a high-gloss black lacquer finish. The box is hexagonal in shape and fully signed in Cyrillic along the lower edge of the artwork. The interior is the classic deep red lacquer associated with authentic Russian lacquerware.
The scene depicts characters from the Snow Queen fairy tale surrounded by swirling icy motifs and elaborate gold decoration around the borders. The box is hinged, in good condition and displays exceptionally well.
Size approximately 13 cm x 13 cm x 4 cm.
