S.A Kuns : Suid-Afrikaanse kuns van die twintigste eeu / S.A. Art : Twentieth Century South African Art.  (Bilingual text). published by Human and Rousseau in co-operation with the Rembrandt van Rijn Art Foundation, 1996.

This is a very large, heavy hardcover book measuring approx.  36 x 26 cm. Please note the condition of the dust wrapper - it looks worse on the photos!  There  are no inscriptions or owner's names written inside the covers.

This publication features all the major South African artists up till 1966 : Oerder, Wenning, Naude, Stern, Pierneef, Laubscher, Battiss, Higgs, van Wouw, Kottler, Lipschitz, Kay, Welz, Preller, Kumalo, Sithole, Laubser, Higgs, etc, etc.  The Foreword is written by Matthys Bokhorst;  the Introduction by Heather Martienssen.

The book consists of 133 pages with 162 reproductions of which 56 are full colour plates. This is a wonderful reference book of any art lover.

The paintings illustrated above are Welz, Preller, Coetzee and Stern with captions underneath.
