History/Background Information: A scarce gold 1 Pond struck in the ZAR in the year 1897. Struck to the same specifications as the British sovereign. Struck shortly before the second Anglo-Boer War.

Condition Notes: A choice about unc example on the cusp of achieving mint state designation. Rare in such quality. The grading population shrinks significantly above this point.
