S. Africa: 1898 ZAR Gold Pond NGC Certified MS63+

History/Background Information: A beautiful gold 1 Pond struck in the ZAR in the year 1898. Struck to the same specifications as the British sovereign. Struck very shortly before the second Anglo-Boer War.

Certification: NGC MS63+ (Brilliant Unc/MS)

Condition Notes: A brilliant uncirculated specimen, beautiful coloration and wonderful lustre present. Although somewhat common in mint state, coins graded MS63+ above are hard to come by.

Mintage: 136 870

Reference: Hern Z51

What does the plus designation mean? - NGC assigns a + to coins at the high end of their assigned grade, approaching the quality requirements for the next grade. For example, a coin graded NGC MS 64+ is close to the quality of a coin graded NGC MS 65. In addition to their superior technical merit, coins that receive a + must have above-average eye appeal.
