SA pattern 1903 leather bayonet frog with SAP and maker markings.
The 1903 pattern leather bandolier equipment never had an official bayonet frog, however the leather 1882/88 pattern frog and numerous variations of it were issued to troops wearing the bandolier equipment. Since South Africa had very limited production capacity for woven cotton webbing, and because leather was cheap and plentiful, we continued to manufacture 1903 pattern leather bandolier equipment well into the Second World War, including this version of bayonet frog.
