UNION OF SOUTH AFRICA - Interesting Postal History item. Cover sent from the National Bank of South Africa Limited to their branch in Haifa, Palestine in October 1928. Franked by horizontal pair of South Africa 1d. carmine and black, SACC 30, from the 1927 Pretoria printings using the original Waterloo plates. The perfs of the 1d stamps is 13.75 x 14.25 and may have come from the booklets. If the 1d stamps are from the booklets, then they are extremely rare on cover.
In addition, the item was TAXED as there was not enough postage used. Interesting manuscript (T 8 cents) alongside the unclear postmark. On arrival a violet cache (TO PAY 8 MILS) was applied and one 8m carmine postage due stamp affixed and cancelled by cds of HAIFA 17 OC 28 alongside on the front. Small tear.
