This item is an authentic South African Air Force (SAAF) Flight Engineer subdued wing. It is a qualification insignia worn by personnel who completed the Flight Engineer course.
This subdued version, embroidered on a nutria-brown cloth background, was designed for use on the standard combat and working dress uniforms of the South African Defence Force (SADF) during the Border War era, prior to the introduction of camouflage uniforms.
