From warinangola.com:  3 SA Infantry Battalion's (3 SAI) [Afr: 3 Suid-Afrikaanse Infanteriebataljon (3 SAI)] inception was on 01 January 1962 at Lenz. It was moved to Potchefstroom on 05 December 1968 to train Citizen Force Members (National Service) as infantry soldiers. The unit was given operational status with two infantry battalions organized under the command of one Commanding Officer. During 1970, 3 SA Infantry Battalion was transformed into a force-in-being. It was moved to Kimberley in 1988 as 3 SA Infantry Training Unit (3 SAI Trg Unit) [Afr: 3 SA Infanterieeopleidingseenheid (3 SAI Opl Eenh)]
