This item is an authentic South African Defence Force (SADF) 5 Reconnaissance Regiment shoulder flash, commonly called a tupperware flash. It displays the classic parachutist wings above a compass rose, a symbol strongly associated with South African Special Forces. The black and white colour scheme reflects the earlier, pre-1994 design style.
This insignia was used by members of 5 Recce, an elite Special Forces unit established in Durban in 1976. These flashes were typically worn on blazers or as formal dress insignia and are now considered sought-after collectors items.
