This is a rare SADF stainless steel mess mug marked with the 61 Mechanised Battalion Group insignia a lightning bolt over a shield with the number "61" and made by Atlanta, in durable 18/8 stainless steel.
61 Mech was one of the most iconic units of the South African Infantry Corps. Originally formed in 1978 as Combat Group Juliet, it evolved into a combined arms battle group including infantry, armor, and artillery. The unit was involved in numerous operations during the South African Border War in South West Africa (now Namibia) and Angola, such as Operation Reindeer, Protea, Hooper, Askari, and Moduler.
