This is an authentic South African Defence Force 71 Motorised Brigade HQ shoulder flash, worn on the SADF nutria brown uniform.
The green and gold/yellow-orange colours form part of the brigades insignia and can be traced back to 17 Brigade in the late 1960s. The number 71 identifies the 71 Motorised Brigade, which was based in Cape Town.
The first headquarters shoulder badge was officially approved in March 1978, with these flashes used during the SADF period from 1974 to 1992.
