SADF Army Nutria Hat Size 58 with Yellow Dayglo inner (1981) During the early 1980's, due to casualties by own fire, policy changes in the SADF changed the specs for the nutria bush hat to have yellow/orange dayglo material sown to the inside of the hat. Where there was air support or artillery fire support with air observation, own forces close to the frontline identified themselves by turning their hats inside out. This policy was soon changed as it deemed to increase the casualties by enemy forces.
