This item is an original Johannesburg Regiment cap badge from the South African Army. The design includes the Johannesburg city shield featuring three kegs or tuns, a heraldic lion above, and crossed rifles indicating an infantry unit.
The badge originates from Johannesburg in Gauteng province. This pattern has been in use since the 1930s. The example shown is made of white metal or chromed metal, a finish commonly used for formal uniforms in the post-1964 period, although earlier brass versions are known.
