This item is an original South African Defence Force (SADF) nutria basic parachute wing qualification badge. It was worn on combat uniforms by personnel who completed the basic static-line parachute course, most commonly soldiers of 1 Parachute Battalion and later 44 Parachute Brigade.

The badge dates to the Border War era, when nutria (olive-brown) was the standard colour for SADF field uniforms. This version is the combat dress printed type, featuring a simple black parachute and wings graphic on nutria cloth.

These printed wings are sought after by collectors of South African airborne, Border War, and specialisation insignia.
