This item is an original Regiment President Steyn cap badge from the South African Army. The design shows a Vickers machine gun on a tripod, reflecting the regiments role as a machine gun battalion during World War II. The top scroll carries the Latin motto Floreat (Blossom), while the lower scroll reads Bloemfontein, the city where the unit was established.
This pattern was used from approximately 1935 to 1964. The badge appears to be brass or gilding metal, consistent with other ranks insignia of that era. The regiment formed part of the South African Defence Force and has strong historical ties to the Free State.
