This item is a military beret flash or beret bar, commonly referred to as a balkie in South Africa. It features a yellow centre stripe with maroon/red outer stripes, a colour combination linked to two known units:
South African Defence Force (SADF) Personnel Service Corps, where similar colours were used for corps identification.
Rhodesian Armoured Cars Regiment, which also used a comparable maroon and yellow beret flash design.
Beret bars were worn on the front of the beret to indicate unit or corps affiliation and remain popular with collectors of Southern African military insignia.
The reverse includes a pin fitting for attachment.
